Piggus [RIP]
Originally called Creamy, Piggus came home with us in January of 2003 as a tiny, little hamster girl. Though we fed her similarly to our other hamsters, she got quite chubby, perhaps partly due to a phantom pregnancy when we tried to breed her with Bamster (creamy + sable = creamy & sable!). She was always rather spoiled, but very tolerant of all the attention we gave her. Her name came from how she trotted around like a little piglet, and later due to her large size.
She was the best little pig ever and we had fun playing with her all the time. Sometimes she'd even just hang out on our coffee table, listening to the TV or just sitting there. She used to like to run around in her ball, often chewing on the lid, so much that we had to replace her ball often and also tape her in! You can still find little plastic shavings in our apartment sometimes.
Later in her life, she encountered a number of health problems, including a large growth on her right flank. It didn't cause her any problems, but a few months later, she started bleeding from her bottom. The vet found an abcess and while trying to remove it surgically, discovered at least 30 or so bladder stones. She may also have had lymphoma or some other form of cancer, and after spending some time at the pet hospital, she passed away on October 21, 2004. She will be missed very very much.
